And He Called It Macro-ni

In the world of diet culture, we are obsessed with "The Macros." We track them, we count them, and we worship them. The word Macro is short, in this case, for Macro nutrients (all you economics folks can sit back down). The prevailing wisdom—especially in the "If It Fits Your Macros" (IIFYM) crowd—is that the body is just a simple calculator. 50g of Fat is 50g of Fat. 20g of Protein is 20g of Protein. As long as the numbers balance at the end of the day, you win. This is a lie. To understand why, we have to look at the word itself. "Macro"  comes from the Greek μακρός (makrós), meaning “long” or "large." In nutrition, they are called Macronutrients simply because our bodies need them in large quantities (grams) compared to Micronutrients (vitamins and minerals), which we need in tiny amounts (milligrams or micrograms). But here is the trap: Just because we need a "large" amount of something doesn't mean the source doesn't matte...

The Fast and the Curious

In my previous posts, we've gone deep into the "why" behind my approach – ditching dirty keto ingredients , fighting inflammation , supporting gut health , and leveraging intermittent fasting . Now, it's time for the "how." The most common question I get is: "How do you actually eat only one meal a day (OMAD) and still get everything you need, especially on a strict 'clean keto' diet?" It sounds extreme, but I promise you, it's not about deprivation; it's about strategic, nutrient-dense fueling. Today, I'm pulling back the curtain on a typical day for me, showing you exactly what my 22:2 fasting schedule looks like and breaking down the one "nutritional powerhouse" meal that fuels my body and brain. My Daily Rhythm: The 22:2 Framework My eating pattern is simple: I fast for 22 hours and eat within a 2-hour window. This long daily fast is key for my goals of maximizing autophagy (cellular cleanup), keeping insulin low...

Beyond the Macros: Why Food Quality is the Real Key to Keto

So why clean keto? I hope to answer that question with this post. What Is the Keto Diet? The ketogenic diet, or "keto" for short, is a way of eating that fundamentally changes your body's primary source of fuel. Instead of using sugar from carbohydrates (like bread, pasta, and fruit) for energy, your body is trained to burn its own stored fat. This approach involves eating a diet that is very high in fat, moderate in protein, and extremely low in carbohydrates. The Core Concept: Switching Your Fuel Source Think of your body as a hybrid engine that can run on two different fuels: Glucose (Sugar): This is the body's default, preferred fuel. When you eat carbohydrates—bread, rice, potatoes, sugary snacks, fruit—your body breaks them down into a simple sugar called glucose. It burns this first for all its energy needs. Ketones (from Fat): This is the backup fuel. When you stop giving your body a steady supply of glucose, it's forced to look for an alternative. Afte...
