The Omega Man

Living in Halifax, the ocean isn't just a view; it's a grocery store. In in previous part of my life, I treated fish as the "diet food" you ate when you were trying to punish yourself for eating steak. It was the dry, flavorless white puck you suffered through. But as I rebuilt my "Clean Keto" protocol, I realized that both sides of my ancestors - those seafaring vikings of Denmark and those rugged Nova Scotians near the Annapolis Basin - were onto something. I don't eat fish just for the protein anymore. I eat it because it is the most potent anti-inflammatory medication in my arsenal. In a previous post , I talked about removing the "Arsonists" (Seed Oils/Omega-6). Today, I want to introduce the "Fire Department." Part 1: The Ratio War (Omega-3 vs. Omega-6) To understand why my heart kept failing, you have to look at the battlefield of inflammation. The human body operates on a balance of fatty acids. Omega-6s (Seed oils, processed...

Currying Favour

For this  #FoodieFriday , I'd like to challenge the stereotype that a Ketogenic diet consists entirely of bacon, eggs, and avocados. While those certainly can be staples, a sustainable lifestyle requires depth of flavor. In my Sunday post, I mentioned that after a stressful day last week, I turned to a "Clean Keto Chicken Curry" to reset my system. This dish is a staple in my rotation because it satisfies the psychological need for "comfort food" while strictly adhering to my nutritional protocols. It is also a perfect example of "Culinary Medicine." The "Clean" Challenge The challenge with quick curry is that most commercial jarred sauces are disqualified on a clean keto diet. If you look at the label, you will often find: Thickeners: Corn starch or potato starch (Carbs). Fillers: Sugar or fruit juice concentrates (Insulin spike). Inflammatory Oils: Soybean, Canola, or Sunflower oil. These ingredients are often used as a matter of course...

Engineering the Path of Least Resistance

For this  #TacticalThursday , I'm going to shift my focus from high-level strategy to ground-level execution. While it is important to have clear goals, the success of any protocol ultimately depends on the logistics of daily life. For a system to run efficiently, the environment must be optimized to reduce friction. Living with Combined Presentation  ADHD often means battling Executive Dysfunction (a symptom that causes problems with how your brain manages thoughts, feelings and actions). This isn't just about "being distracted"; it is a regulation issue. It is the difficulty of initiating tasks, remembering where objects are, and making decisions when the brain is already fatigued. Over the years, I have learned that relying on willpower is a failing strategy. Willpower is a finite resource. Instead, I rely on preparation . I design my environment to remove the need for decision-making. Here are the specific protocols I use to keep the system running smoothly. 1. Ex...

Living Proof

For #WellnessWednesday , I often discuss the methodology of my lifestyle - the fasting windows, the ketogenic nutrition, and the exercise protocols. Today, I want to discuss the results . We often judge our health by how we look in the mirror or how our clothes fit. While valid, these are subjective metrics. As someone who values data, I prefer to look at the objective evidence provided by bloodwork. I recently received the results from my latest panel, and the data offers a compelling validation of the changes I have made. Note:  All of the images below are screen captures taken directly from the Lab and Diagnostics section of my Records in the YourHealthNS app, and have not been altered in any way. The blood collection was taken on January 2nd, 2026. 1. Metabolic Flexibility (The A1c) The most significant marker in this report is my Hemoglobin A1c (glycated hemoglobin). This metric provides an average of blood sugar levels over the past three months . My result was 4.5% . For co...

The Ghost in the Machine (Is Just Math)

It’s Tuesday, which means I'm talking tech. If you’ve tried to buy a new graphics card lately - maybe eyeing that RTX 5090 to make your games look crisp - you’ve probably noticed the price tag looks more like a down payment on a car. You can thank the "AI Boom" for that. But with terms like "AGI," "LLM," and "Hallucination" flying around, it’s hard to separate the sci-fi from the software. Today, I want to break down exactly what this technology is, why it’s eating the world’s supply of silicon, and why it can write a sonnet but can’t actually "feel" anything. The "NPC" vs. The "Player" (Defining AGI) To understand why I say "it's just math," we have to define the difference between the AI we have and the AI we fear . In the tech world, we often talk about the Holy Grail of computing: Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) . AGI is a hypothetical machine that possesses human-level cognitive abilitie...

Navigating the Void: The Architecture of Moving Forward

For the past five years, my life was defined by a shared narrative. It was a partnership that spanned three years of marriage and two years of courtship - a structure I believed to be permanent. I viewed it as my "perfect" ending. Four months ago, that structure was dismantled at the request of my wife. Since then, I have observed - from a distance - as she has embraced this new chapter with speed and enthusiasm, declaring her freedom and readiness to re-enter the social world. In contrast, I find myself standing at the threshold of this new reality, hesitating. I have created the dating profiles and joined the social groups, yet I remain disengaged. My hesitation is not born of apathy, but of introspection. As I analyze my reluctance, I have identified three distinct barriers that are preventing me from moving forward, and the strategies I am employing to dismantle them. 1. The Fallacy of Comparison The most immediate barrier is the fear of comparison. When a relationship en...

An Error of Exception

In software development, an "Exception Error" occurs when a program encounters an unexpected condition that disrupts the normal flow of instructions. This week, I encountered a critical exception error. My mother was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia. In the rush to leave work early and travel to the Valley to see her, the "System"—my carefully curated routine of fasting, clean eating, and exercise—encountered a glitch. The "Crash" Stress is a powerful disruptor. Triggered by worry and a disruption in my schedule, I reverted to old code. On the drive down, I stopped at a (keto) bakery. I broke my 22:2 fast early (around 2:00 PM) with treats rather than nutrition. Treats from Locally Baked Outlet (picture credit to them) By the time I returned to Halifax that evening, I was mentally and physically drained. I managed to cook a compliant dinner—a simple clean keto chicken curry with cauliflower rice—but the tank was empty. I skipped my calisthenics rou...
